Fireworks over Big Spirit Lake began with the SLPA sponsorship in the early 1980’s. Initially, SLPA funded the entire fireworks display through the SLPA membership fees and any other donations received. In early 2013, the SLPA created the Pancake Breakfast at Mini-Wakan to help raise money for the fireworks, and this annual event becomes more popular each year.
The SLPA Century Club began in 2018 to increase support of the fireworks and recognize those donors who give $100 or more on an annual basis for support of the fireworks. Today, fireworks continue to be funded through the SLPA membership, the Century Club, and with title corporate sponsorship by Kabele’s Trading Post and Lodge and other businesses sponsorships.
The SLPA is committed to continuing the fireworks show and, as fireworks costs continue to rise, continues to seek out donations and sponsorships to help maintain and grow this important quality of life activity.
